Sacramento River Cats News Release
ROUND ROCK, Texas - The Sacramento River Cats defeated the Round Rock Express by a score of 7-5 on Friday night at Dell Diamond thanks to a 3-for-5 night from Shane Peterson, splitting the four-game series two games apiece.
The River Cats made noise early, scoring twice in the top of the first on back-to-back RBI-doubles from Peterson and Nate Freiman. Sacramento extended its lead with a three-run third when Jake Elmore, Anthony Aliotti, and Jose Martinez each double in a run.
After a scoreless fourth, Round Rock came storming back, cutting the lead to one with a Bryan Peterson grand slam in the bottom of the fifth. Sacramento added an insurance run in the top of the sixth thanks to a Peterson RBI-single, scoring Tyler Ladendorf. The teams traded runs in the eighth inning before Jeremy McBryde came on in the ninth to nail down the 7-5 River Cats win.
Peterson finished 3-for-5 with two runs, two RBI, a double, and his 11th steal, while Elmore went 2-for-4 with a run, two RBI, a walk, a double, and a steal in his first start of the season at left field. Josh Lindblom earned his fourth win after giving up four earned runs on four hits and three walks with four strikeouts in six innings of work. McBryde tallied his sixth save with a perfect ninth inning.
The loss was charged to Miles Mikolas, who allowed 10 hits, five runs-four earned-with one walk and four strikeouts in five innings. Bryan Peterson went 2-for-4 with two runs, five RBI, and two home runs for Round Rock.
The River Cats now travel to New Orleans to take on the Zephyrs in a four-game set that will begin on Saturday night at 4 p.m. when River Cats righty Matt Buschmann (5-2, 4.88 ERA) takes on lefty Brian Flynn (6-5, 3.69 ERA) at Zephyr Field.
The River Cats return home on Thursday, June 26, for #SacLovesSports night at Raley Field as they take on the Las Vegas 51s at 7:05 p.m. in a game that will be broadcast nationally on CBS Sports Network.
