Omaha Storm Chasers June 20th Game Notes
June 20, 2014 - Pacific Coast League (PCL1)
Omaha Storm Chasers News Release
LAST NIGHT'S LOSS: The Storm Chasers suffered their fifth shutout loss of the season, as top Dodgers pitching prospect Zach Lee tossed seven scoreless innings. Omaha came in to the game averaging nearly 14 hits per game in their last eight but were held to five hits (tied for their lowest total in their last 45 games since being one hit on May 5). Sugar Ray Marimon gave up four runs, and has given up nine runs in his last two starts at home (seven runs in first five starts).
NO PLACE AT HOME: Omaha has now lost four of five games at Werner Park (lost final two games vs Oklahoma City earlier this month) and since the start of May the Storm Chasers have only a 10-9 record at home vs their 21-10 record on the road in the last month and a half. In the month of April, Omaha was 9-7 at home and 1-7 away from Werner Park.
A SUPERB START: Omaha starter Clayton Mortensen makes his fifth appearance since joining Omaha in late May due to his recovery from hip surgery, and has allowed only one earned run (two runs total) in his first 22,0 innings. Mortensen did not allow a run in his first 20.1 innings, which eclipsed Joel Peralta's 18.1 inning streak as the longest to start a season for Omaha in the last ten years (Neal Musser had a 45.2 no earned runs streak to start 2007).
HIT PAREDES: Jimmy Paredes has a hit in 24 of 27 games, and during that stretch he is batting .348 (39-for-112) (only El Paso's Jeff Francoeur at .352 is better since May 11 in the PCL).
SHUTOUTS AT WERNER: Omaha was shutout at home for the second time this season (the other being April 21 against Nashville and Brewers top prospect Jimmy Nelson). Those two shutouts are their only nine-inning game shutouts in their last 101 such games at Werner Park dating back to the final two home games of the 2012 season (were not shut out in a nine-inning game at home all of 2013, but twice on same day in a June 2, 2013 doubleheader vs Memphis).
NOT A RELIEF: In the first 16 June games spanning 58 innings, Omaha relievers allowed 10 earned runs (1.55 ERA). In their last 7.0 innings, they have allowed nine earned runs (11.57 ERA).
GETTING C.C.-ED: Christian Colon is currently riding a nine-game hit streak (longest active for Omaha) and his 13 hits during the streak has raised his average from .275 to .288. Colon has 21 multi-hit games this season, trailing only Paulo Orlando's 22 multi-hit games.
VERY SNEAKY: Omaha has five straight games with a steal (12 of 13 on attempts during this streak). It is the third streak of five or more games this season for Omaha with a steal (six games June 8-13 and a season-high streak of seven games April 27 - May 4). Omaha leads the PCL with 77 steals, the only team averaging more than a steal per game (Iowa is second at 67).
