Tacoma Rainiers News Release

Salt Lake City, UT - The Tacoma Rainiers (55-66) continued to alternate wins and losses in Salt Lake City this week, as the Salt Lake Bees (57-64) evened the series at two games apiece with a 4-3 victory.

The Bees grabbed a 2-0 lead in the fourth inning when Steven Duggar homered to left field (solo) to leadoff, followed by a Chad Wallach double to left. Wallach scored on a Jake Palomaki single to center.

Rainiers RHP Konner Wade tossed five complete innings. Both runs against him were earned, on six hits and a walk. Wade struck out five, and ceded to lefty Matthew Boyd, who continued his elongated MLB rehab assignment with Tacoma with a perfect sixth and two punchouts.

Salt Lake starter Cesar Valdez posted a quality start by working 6.0 scorless innings: 3 H, 1 BB, 4 K.

Tacoma broke up the shutout in the top of the eighth, after Taylor Trammell led off with single. He stole second and scored on an Abraham Toro single, making the score 2-1.

The Bees buoyed their fortunes with a pair of true insurance runs in the home eighth however; Kean Wong and Dillon Thomas led the frame with singles to right field. Both scored on a Michael Stefanic double to left before an out was recorded.

Salt Lake would need every last run however, as a Rainiers rally fell just short in the ninth. Forrest Wall doubled with one out, before Marcus Wilson destroyed a 400-foot homer to left-center with two down, his 14th of the season but the final scoring play of the night. Trammell, Toro and Wall each had two hits for Tacoma.

The penultimate game of this weeklong series will be on Saturday at Smith's Ballpark, another 5:35 PT/6:35 MT first pitch. LHP Roenis Elias will open the game for Tacoma, RHP Michael Lorenzen will start on MLB Rehab assignment for Salt Lake.

Rainiers broadcaster Mike Curto will have full coverage on TacomaRainiers.com. All 2022 Rainiers games, home and away, can also be heard for free on the MiLB First Pitch app. HD video broadcasts of every game can be viewed with a MiLB.TV subscription.
