
Bears Announce Opening Night Roster

HERSHEY â The HERSHEY BEARS announced today the 23-man roster that will begin the club's 66th season in the American Hockey League. The announcement was made jointly by BEARS President/General Manager Doug Yingst and head coach Paul Fixter.
The BEARS will carry two goaltenders to begin the season; second year pro Peter Budaj and newcomer Tom Lawson. The defensive corps features a mix of veterans and newcomers to the HERSHEY lineup. Veterans include Brett Clark, Pascal Trepanier, and D.J Smith, while the newcomers to the roster include highly touted Avalanche prospect Tomas Slovak. At forward, Steve Brule returns to the lineup for 2003-04 along with Charlie Stephens, Jordan Krestanovich and Travis Brigley. There are also new faces from the Tampa Bay Lightning organization, with Shane Willis and Nikita Alexeev joining the forward contingent. To reduce the roster to 23 players, the BEARS announced this afternoon that defensemen Mark Jerant and Jeff Finger have been reassigned.
HERSHEY opens its 66th AHL season on Saturday against the Syracuse Crunch at 7:30. Air time with John Walton on BIG 92.7 FM is 7:10 p.m. The BEARS open up the home portion of the 2003-04 season on Saturday, October 18th at GIANT Center.
