Center Alex Kim Added to Rivermen Training Camp Roster

Peoria, Ill. (October 8, 2003) – Head Coach/Director of Hockey Operations Jason Christie of the Peoria Rivermen of the ECHL announced today that center Alex Kim, who was acquired from the Reading Royals in the offseason, has been added to the team's training camp roster.

Kim – 5-foot-11, 195-pound center – posted 46 points (22g, 24a) in 61 games for the Royals during 2002-2003 – his rookie season. The 24-year-old native of Fullerton, Calif. registered collegiate career highs during his junior season at NCAA Division I Colorado College, collecting 38 points (17g, 21a) and 53 penalty minutes in 41 games. The second-year center, who was acquired from Reading for cash and future considerations, played two years at Colorado College and one year of Junior "A" hockey (1999-2000) with the Des Moines Buccaneers of the United States Hockey League (USHL) with Blues rookie and 2003 Hobey Baker Award winner Peter Sejna.

Twenty-five (25) skaters (15 forwards & 10 defensemen) and three goaltenders are in Rivermen training camp. There are currently nine Rivermen returnees (center Trevor Baker, center Brendan Brooks, defenseman Scott Crawford, right wing Bret DeCecco, forward Josh Kern, center Mike Nelson, center Tyler Rennette, left wing Randy Rowe & left wing Alex Zinevych) with the club. Key newcomers include: tough man Craig Brunel (Trenton Titans), defenseman Craig Olynick (Humboldt Broncos, SJHL), defenseman Garry Toor (Arkansas RiverBlades) and defenseman Joe Vandermeer (Lexington Men O' War).

The Rivermen will participate in an intrasquad, Blue/White game tonight at Carver Arena at 6:00 p.m. The scrimmage is free and open to the public. The Rivermen are not participating in any preseason games.

On Thursday, October 9, the team will engage in 8:00 a.m. workout followed by 3:30 p.m. on-ice session, which will consist of a scrimmage or team system work. The majority of player cuts will be made after practice on Thursday. After a Friday practice, the remaining players will enjoy a day off on Saturday, October 11 and participate in a team-building exercise on Sunday, October 12.

During the week of October 13, the team will participate in 10:00 a.m. practices at Carver Arena Monday, Tuesday & Thursday and then depart on Thursday, October 16 for its first road game in Cincinnati the following day. The team will then face off against the Cincinnati Cyclones in a season opening matchup at U.S. Bank Arena on Friday, October 17 at 6:30 p.m. CT, before returning to Peoria for their home opener against the archrival Toledo Storm on Saturday, October 18 at 7:05 p.m. CT.
