Barons Season Starts Saturday
October 8, 2003 - American Hockey League (AHL)
Cleveland Barons News Release
CLEVELAND - The Cleveland Barons season kicks off on Saturday, October 11th vs. the Hamilton Bulldogs at 7:00pm.
The first 5,000 fans in attendance will receive a Cleveland Barons/Holland Oil Magnet Schedule. One lucky fan will be chosen to participate in the Cox Communications $10,000 Shootout.
The night will kick off with a special appearance by the Singing Angels. America's Premier Youth Performing Chorus, made up of young singers ages 8 to 18, will sing both The Star Spangled Banner and O' Canada prior to the opening face-off. The world-renowned Singing Angels have performed in more than 26 countries worldwide.
The Barons will unveil a number of new features and interactive activities on opening night. First and foremost, the Barons have added the Barons Bouncer Inflatable to Gund for all home games.
Also new to the Gund is the Charity SlapShark SlapShot Zone. For $1, fans shoot three pucks at a net. On the third shot, the shooter guesses the speed of the next attempt. If the guess is correct, the fan wins a prize. Proceeds from the SlapShark SlapShot Zone will benefit Cleveland Barons Charities. Also benefiting Barons Charities is the Cleveland Barons Prize Wheel. Fans have the opportunity to spin the wheel for $1 to win a variety of prizes.
Warming up for the Singing Angels is the Happy Hobo Swing Band, who will perform in the concourse from 6pm-7pm. A game of laser tag will be played in the concourse as well. Fans can learn how to play laser tag courtesy of Laser Quest in Akron.
LifeBanc will be recognized for participating in the Barons Charitable Partnership Program. LifeBanc will honor several mayors and/or civic representatives of Greater Cleveland communities for their efforts in raising awareness about organ donation.
"Opening night sets the tone for the season both on and off the ice," stated Michael T. Lehr, President of the Cleveland Barons. "Expect the electricity at Gund Arena on Saturday to flow throughout the entire season."
The Barons open up the season at home on October 11th at 7:00pm. Group tickets for the game are now available by calling the Barons ticket staff at 216-420-0000. Season Tickets and several Partial Plan Ticket Packages are available as well. More information can be found by Crashing The Net at www.clevelandbarons.net.
