October 8, 2003 - American Hockey League (AHL)
Manitoba Moose News Release

Today the Manitoba Moose announced that Dallas Eakins has been named the captain of the Manitoba Moose for the 2003-04 season. Forwards Tyler Bouck, Zenith Komarniski, Ryan Ready, and Jimmy Roy will be revolving as the alternate captains for the upcoming campaign.

This will be Eakins' first season on the Moose blueline after signing with the Vancouver Canucks on August 6, 2003. The 36-year old served as an assistant captain with the Chicago Wolves for the past four seasons, where many have credited him with the development of young rearguards Garnet Exelby and Kurtis Foster within the Atlanta Thrashers organization. Over his 16-year career, Eakins has played in 120 NHL games, scoring nine assists and over 200 penalty minutes. He has also played in 818 career games in both the International Hockey League (IHL) and the American Hockey League (AHL), scoring 41 goals and 174 assists for 215 points.

"Dallas not only brings invaluable experience as a player, but also as a team leader," says Moose Head Coach Stan Smyl. "His presence has already provided a steadying influence for our young defence corps as well as the entire team."

Eakins was the 11th choice of the Washington Capitals, 208th overall in the 1985 NHL Entry Draft.

Eakins becomes the fourth captain in Manitoba Moose franchise history. Randy Gilhen was the first captain for one season in 1996-97, followed by Scott Arniel from 1997-98 until 1998-99 (two seasons). Brian Chapman had worn the "C" for the Moose the previous four years.
