Chesapeake Baysox News Release
BOWIE, Md. - Reigning Eastern League Pitcher of the Week RHP Jake Arrieta was promoted to Triple-A Norfolk along with LHP Troy Patton. LHP Bobby Livingston was transferred back to the Baysox from Norfolk, while RHP Timothy Bascom was called up from High Class-A Frederick.
Arrieta, the only two-time Eastern League Pitcher of the Week this season, is coming off one of his best outings of the season. The Plano, TX native tossed a 7.0 inning complete game shutout in game one of a doubleheader against Erie last Sunday. For the season, Arrieta went 6-3 with a 2.54 ERA in 11 starts while striking out 70 in 59.0 innings of work. He is the only player in the Eastern League this season to throw more than one shutout, while his 10.68 strikeouts per nine innings is the best in the Eastern League among starters.
Patton went 6-2 in 11 starts for the Baysox this season, posting an ERA of 1.99 in 63.1 innings of work. He currently ranks second in the Eastern League in ERA and wins, while his 1.04 WHIP ranks fourth. The left-hander was unbeaten at home, going 4-0 with a 0.75 ERA at Prince George's Stadium.
Livingston returns to the Baysox after making three starts at Triple-A Norfolk, going 1-0 with a 1.80 ERA in 20.0 innings with the Tides. Over his last two starts, the left-hander has not allowed an earned run in 14.0 innings of work. In nine appearances (8 starts) with the Baysox this season, Livingston went 5-1 with a 3.80 ERA in 45.0 innings of work. He earned a victory in each of his last four starts, going 4-0 with a 3.95 ERA in five May starts with the Baysox.
Bascom will make his Baysox debut tonight as the starter against New Britain. In 12 appearances (11 starts) with High Class-A Frederick this season, the right-hander went 4-5 with a 3.40 ERA while walking 13 and striking out 32 in 53.0 innings of work. In five appearances (4 starts) on the road starts this season, Bascom went 3-0 with a 3.00 ERA. Originally a 4th round pick by the Orioles in 2007, Bascom has gone 15-13 with a 4.32 ERA in 48 career games.
