New Britain Rock Cats News Release

New Britain, CT - New Britain starter Matthew Fox engaged in an old-fashioned pitcher's duel with Bowie's Timothy Bascom, but the Baysox struck last and walked away with a 2-1 victory to take the first game of a three-game series.

Fox and Bascom crusied through the first six innings of play, but the Baysox finally got on the board on Joseph Nowicki's RBI double that scored Miguel Abreu, who reached on a double, in the seventh inning. The Rock Cats answered back in the bottom of the inning when Matt Moses singled and came around to score on a double by Brian Dinkelman.

Alex Burnett came on in relief for Fox in the top of the eighth and walked the first batter he faced, Dave Krynzel. After advancing on a sacrifice bunt by Jonathan Tucker, Krynzel scored on a single by Robert Valido that put the Baysox back on top, 2-1.

Fox finished with one run on four hits in seven innings. He struck out six but came away with the no-decision. Burnett (0-1) suffered the loss with one run on three hits in two innings out of the bullpen.

Bascom (1-0) lasted seven innings as well, allowing seven hits and one run while striking out seven. Josh Perrault notched his ninth save of the season, striking out two of the four batters he faced.

Rock Cats' catcher Wilson Ramos left the game with an apparent hamstring injury in the bottom of the fourth inning. Ramos, who reached base on a single, pulled up short while running into third base on a double by Erik Lis and was replaced by Jeff Christy.
