Barracuda Slip Past Reign 3-1 in Final Regular-Season Meeting

San Jose, CA - The Ontario Reign (39-17-4-1) fell to the San Jose Barracuda (29-22-7-3) 3-2 Wednesday evening at SAP Center. The Reign finished the 12-game regular-season series against San Jose with a 9-3-0-0 record.

The Barracuda opened the scoring late in the first period when forward Petter Emanuelsson settled a rolling puck and lifted it over the glove of Reign netminder Peter Budaj (L, 9 saves on 12 shots) at 15:18.

In the second period, the Barracuda tacked on two more tallies before chasing Budaj in favor of Michael Houser (8 saves on 8 shots). Forward Bryan Lerg slipped a shot under the blocker of Budaj at 5:41 and rookie Nikolay Goldobin banked a shot of his glove at 10:25. Forward Kris Newbury put the Reign on the scoreboard and snapped a 20-game goalless streak at 18:52 with help from forward Jonny Brodzinski and defenseman Jeff Schultz.

The Reign peppered Barracuda goaltender Aaron Dell with 19 shots in the third period, but the Sharks prospect denied every chance and finished the game with 35 saves. Both teams finished the game 0-for-4 on the power play.

The Ontario Reign continue a four-game road trip on Friday, April 1 against the Stockton Heat at 7:30 p.m. at Stockton Arena in Stockton California and return to Citizens Business Bank Arena for the final regular-season home game on Friday, April 8 against the Bakersfield Condors at 7:00 p.m. Join the Reign for Fan Appreciation Night and $2 20oz.
