Stockton Heat News Release

Stockton, Calif. - The Stockton Heat are proud to announce that Bryce Van Brabant has been named the team's winner of the IOA/American Specialty AHL Man of the Year award for his outstanding contributions to the Stockton community during the 2015-16 season.

Over the course of the 2015-16 season, Bryce has attended all but one event offered by the Stockton Heat getting the players involved in the community. This includes visiting local restaurants and businesses, where he's prepared food for customers and played games with children, counting teddy bears and brightening the days of homeless children during the teddy bear distribution at the United Way of San Joaquin County, sponsoring a student from one.TLC, a school for homeless children during the holiday season and even helping the Heat's youngest fans on the ice learn how to skate to name a few.

Bryce's commitment to the Greater Stockton community in his sophomore campaign is very apparent, consistently being the first player signed up for any community appearance while also rallying others to participate with him. In fact, Bryce got his own family involved during the holidays in Stockton, making sure his fiancée participated alongside him in the annual Hockey Players 4 Kids Holiday Party for the children's home. This follows his rookie year last season where he ranked among one of the community leaders on the Adirondack Flames in the Glens Falls, NY community.

Van Brabant is now one of 30 finalists for the AHL's 2015-16 Yanick Dupre Memorial Award, honoring the overall IOA/American Specialty AHL Man of the Year. The league award is named after the former Hershey Bears forward and AHL All-Star who died in 1997 following a 16-month battle with leukemia. The winner of the Yanick Dupre Memorial Award will be announced by the American Hockey League at a later date.
