Wilkes-Barre/Scranton Penguins News Release

WILKES-BARRE, Pa. - The Wilkes-Barre/Scranton Penguins are proud to announce that Will O'Neill has been named the team's winner of the IOA/American Specialty AHL Man of the Year award for his outstanding contributions to the Wilkes-Barre/Scranton community during the 2015-16 season.

A fourth-year pro in his first season with Wilkes-Barre/Scranton, Will O'Neill has not only emerged as a leader in the Penguins locker room, but also a leader in the team's efforts in the community. O'Neill took part in visits to Janet Weis Children's Hospital in Danville, Pa. as well as actively pursuing spots in the team's trips to local elementary schools and libraries to read to children.

O'Neill has drawn the respect of his teammates for his relentless passion for hockey and dedication to the organization's community outreach.

O'Neill is one of 30 finalists for the AHL's 2015-16 Yanick Dupre Memorial Award, honoring the overall IOA/American Specialty AHL Man of the Year. The league award is named after the former Hershey Bears forward and AHL All-Star who died in 1997 following a 16-month battle with leukemia.

One Wilkes-Barre/Scranton Penguin has won the Yanick Dupre Memorial Award in the past: Defenseman Matt Carkner received the award for the 2005-06 season.

The winner of the Yanick Dupre Memorial Award will be announced by the American Hockey League at a later date.
