Ontario, CA - The Ontario Reign are proud to announce that forward Sean Backman has been named the team's winner of the IOA/American Specialty AHL Man of the Year award for his outstanding contributions to the Ontario community during the 2015-16 season.

Backman's on and off-ice contributions to the Inland Empire during the Reign's first season in the American Hockey League (AHL) have quickly established him as a fan-favorite. His outgoing and caring personality provides fans a personal connection to the origination and he always dedicates time for signing autographs, meeting season ticket members and engaging fans on a daily basis.

In the community, Backman volunteered for several events including the team's annual visit to the Danbury Special Education School in Claremont, California and Reign Day at Citizens Business Bank Arena and was an active participant in the team's Pink in the Rink campaign to fight breast cancer, Loma Linda Children's Hospital Night, Military Appreciation Night, the Reign Gala to support the Be Perfect Foundation and provide emotional aid for individuals living with paralysis and postgame events at local restaurants.

Backman is now one of 30 finalists for the AHL's 2015-16 Yanick Dupre Memorial Award, honoring the overall IOA/American Specialty AHL Man of the Year. The league award is named after the former Hershey Bears forward and AHL All-Star who died in 1997 following a 16-month battle with leukemia. The winner of the Yanick Dupre Memorial Award will be announced by the American Hockey League at a later date.
