Springfield Falcons News Release

Springfield, MA - The Springfield Falcons are proud to announce that Domenic Monardo has been named the team's winner of the IOA/American Specialty AHL Man of the Year award for his outstanding contributions to the Springfield community during the 2015-16 season.

Monardo has represented the Falcons in the community with the utmost class and dedication. As the lone returning player from last season, the forward has become a fan favorite largely because of his ability to interact with any person despite age, background or interests. His enthusiasm outside the arena has given him and the Falcons a sophisticated reputation. Monardo has attended several community events to interact with all ages. His interactions include the Shriner's Hospital for Children, elementary schools, youth hockey practices, Special Olympic events in conjunction with CHD, Habitat for Humanity and the Soldiers' Veterans Home in Holyoke, Massachusetts.

The second-year forward has a gift to reach any age with the positive message to remain true to oneself and stay dedicated to learning despite ones age. Voluntarily attending over two-thirds of the Falcons' player appearances over the course of the season, Monardo continues to remain involved with the community and assist in any possible manner he can.

Monardo is now one of 30 finalists for the AHL's 2015-16 Yanick Dupre Memorial Award, honoring the overall IOA/American Specialty AHL Man of the Year. The league award is named after the former Hershey Bears forward and AHL All-Star who died in 1997 following a 16-month battle with leukemia. The winner of the Yanick Dupre Memorial Award will be announced by the American Hockey League at a later time.
