Cleveland Barons News Release
CLEVELAND â The Cleveland Barons, in conjunction with the American Hockey League, today announced their 2004-05 regular season schedule. Michael T. Lehr, President of the Cleveland Barons, made the announcement.
The Barons open their fourth campaign on Friday, October 15th at Grand Rapids. It will be the first of eight meetings between the two teams. The Barons home opener is set for the next night at 7:00pm on Saturday, October 16th against the Manitoba Moose. The Barons will then host the AHL Calder Cup Champion Milwaukee Admirals on Wednesday, October 20th.
Things will heat up on November 2nd as the Barons will host the Hamilton Bulldogs. In winning the North Division regular season crown last season, the Bulldogs and Barons met in the Division Semifinals. Hamilton defeated the Barons in a six-game series. Their rivalry will continue as the two teams will meet eight times during the regular season.
For the second consecutive season, the Barons will hit the books with a Thursday matinee game. The annual "School Is Cool!" game will be held on November 11th against the Manitoba Moose at 10:30am. Bus loads of school children will flock to the Gund for a day of education and thrills.
The Barons will play seven Saturday night games during the season. The highlight of the Saturday night schedule will occur on January 8th against Grand Rapids. The game will begin at 8:00pm as part of a Gund Arena doubleheader that will feature a 1:30pm Cleveland Cavaliers game. Each of the other six Saturday night games will begin at 7:00pm.
Beginning January 25th, the Barons will play 9 out of 10 games at the friendly confines of Gund Arena. The longest home stand of the year for the Barons will occur during that time, a five game stretch that will begin on Tuesday, January 25th and conclude on February 3rd. But the Barons won't be away for long as they return home for four straight home games from February 5th to February 17th.
A pair of five game road trip equal the longest stretches away from Gund Arena for the Barons. The first trek begins on January 14th and concludes on January 22nd. The Barons will battle Syracuse (2), Cincinnati, and Utah (2) on the trip. The Barons will embark on the second 5-game trip on March 10th and end on March 16th. That trip will feature San Antonio (2), Milwaukee, and St. John's (2).
The Barons will be tested with 10 three-games-in-three-nights sets this season. In 2003-04, the Barons posted an impressive 17-11-2-3 record in their 12 3-in-3's. Cleveland will also be faced with six four-games-in-five-nights stretches. The six stretches are two less than the nine the Barons completed in 2003-04, where they posted a 16-8-1-3 record.
The entire 80 game schedule will be played within the Western Conference. The Barons will play each team in the North Division a total of 8 times (4 home/4 road). In the West Division, the Barons will play each of the following teams: Cincinnati (8 times â 4 home/4 road), Grand Rapids (8 times â 4 home/4 road), Houston (4 games â 2 home/2 road), San Antonio (4 games â 2 home/2 road), Utah (4 games â 2 home/2 road), Chicago (2 games â 1 home/1road), and Milwaukee (2 games â 1 home/1 road).
"I feel this is our best schedule in four seasons," stated Lehr. "It really emphasizes our strong rivalries with teams like Hamilton and Cincinnati, and I feel our fans will really appreciate it in our run to the Calder Cup."
