Americans open 49th season at home against Manitoba

(Rochester, NY)... The Rochester Americans open their 49th season in the American Hockey League at home against the Manitoba Moose at The Blue Cross Arena at the Rochester War Memorial.
The Amerks will again be a member of the Western Conference's North Division. The Amerks enter the 2004-05 season after a banner year that saw the team finish third in the division (37-28-10-5, 89 points) and advance to the Western Conference Finals. Rochester lost in five games to the eventual champion Milwaukee Admirals. Rochester also maintains the longest affiliation in professional hockey, as it enters its 26th season as the AHL partner of the Buffalo Sabres. As part of the regional marketing of the two teams, the Amerks will play the Edmonton Roadrunners at HSBC Arena in Buffalo on Tuesday, December 28th at 7:05 p.m. Buffalo will also in turn bring an NHL regular season game to Rochester for the second time in its history. The Sabres will host the 2004 Stanley Cup champion Tampa Bay Lightning on Monday, October 18th at 7:00 p.m. at The Blue Cross Arena at the Rochester War Memorial.
The 2004-05 season also welcomes two teams to The Blue Cross Arena for the first time, as the Edmonton Roadrunners and Utah Grizzlies make their inaugural trips to Rochester. The Roadrunners relocated from Toronto in the offseason and are a member of the North Division. Edmonton plays the Amerks for the first time on December 28th in Buffalo and comes to Rochester on Friday, March 4th. Rochester hosts the Utah Grizzlies on Friday, January 14th & Sunday, January 16th. The Grizzlies, affiliate of the Phoenix Coyotes, battle the Amerks four times in 2004-05.
The Amerks will also host the 2004 Calder Cup champion Milwaukee Admirals on December 10th in a rematch of the 2004 Western Conference Finals. Rochester travels to Milwaukee on Friday, October 22nd for an 8:00 p.m. start. In addition, Rochester has one home contest against the 2003 champion Houston Aeros: Friday, November 19th.
Furthermore, Rochester will have two special holiday games during the 2004-05 campaign. The Amerks host the rival Syracuse Crunch at 4:00 p.m. on Halloween (Sunday, October 31st) and will usher in the New Year with a 7:35 p.m. game against the Albany River Rats on Friday, December 31st.
Rochester's busiest month by far is January as the team plays 15 games in 28 days. The Amerks become road warriors with 10 of those contests away from Rochester. The stretch begins in Philadelphia on January 2nd, jets to Edmonton for games on January 5th and 6th, and ends in Cleveland on January 7th. The Amerks also make stops in Binghamton, Albany, Syracuse and Hamilton (twice).
The best month for Amerks' fans is November, with Rochester playing nine times at The Blue Cross Arena. The month features a four-game homestand, which includes games against Binghamton, Houston and two against Hamilton from November 19-24. The Amerks also play the 60 percent of their home games on a Friday or Saturday night (24 of 40).
