Barber Poles Score Four in the Third to Down Bulldogs
November 13, 2021 - Ontario Hockey League (OHL)
Ottawa 67's News Release
Snapping a two-game losing skid, the Ottawa 67's used a four-goal third period to beat the Hamilton Bulldogs by a final score of 6-3, Saturday afternoon.
Vsevolod Gaidamak recorded his second two-goal game of the season, Luca Pinelli scored the first of his OHL career, with Dylan Robinson, Brenden Sirizzotti, and Brady Stonehouse tallying the other Ottawa markers. Cam Tolnai had another three-point effort, while Will Cranley - entering the game halfway through - stopped all 14 Hamilton shots he faced.
The 67's opened the scoring on the powerplay, when Sirizzotti found Robinson with a gorgeous cross-ice pass, and he rifled a shot past Marco Costantini (twin brother of Anthony) for a 1-0 Ottawa lead.
Hamilton struck back quickly, though, with two goals from Jan Mysak giving the Bulldogs a 2-1 advantage heading into the second period.
Not to be outdone, just 2:50 into the second frame, and with the Barber Poles on the powerplay once more, Gaidamak drew even for the 67's. The puck bounced into the corner to the left of the Hamilton goal, and his centering pass attempt bounced in off the goaltender's pad, knotting things up at 2-2.
Avery Hayes would put the Bulldogs up again just before the midway point of the second, but despite heading to the third down a goal, the 67's would take over from there.
Less than two minutes into the final period, Tolnai streaked into the slot and ripped a shot off the post, but the rebound bounced to Pinelli, who had a wide open net for his first OHL goal. A native of Stoney Creek, Ontario, the hometown kid tied the game at 3-3.
Ottawa wasn't done there, and neither was Pinelli. After a great chance for the Bulldogs, he sent Gaidamak off to the races, and a phenomenal individual effort saw him power past the Hamilton defender, and pull the puck around Costantini for the eventual game-winner.
The Bulldogs would pull Costantini for the extra attacker twice in the game's final two minutes, where Sirizzotti and Stonehouse both made them pay with empty-net goals, paving the home stretch of a 6-3 win for the 67's.
Game Notes:
Vsevolod Gaidamak now leads the OHL with four game-winning goals.
This was the second multi-point game of Luca Pinelli's OHL career.
Cam Tolnai is now tied for the team lead in points, with Jack Beck (17).
Tolnai's first assist was the 50th point of his OHL career.
Up Next: The 67's take on the Oshawa Generals at Tribute Communities Centre, for a 6:05pm EST puckdrop.
