OHL Kingston Frontenacs

Frontenacs Can't Overcome Early Deficit in 6-4 Loss to the Generals

November 13, 2021 - Ontario Hockey League (OHL)
Kingston Frontenacs News Release

The Kingston Frontenacs met up with the Oshawa Generals for the first time in the 2021-22 season on Friday night at Leon's Centre with the visitors leaving with 6-4 win. Kingston fought back getting within a goal, but a four-goal deficit eventually proved too much. Lucas Peric had a pair of goals with Jordan Frasca and Martin Chromiak each adding a goal and assist.

The Generals are riding high having not lost a regulation game since October 21 versus Peterborough, going 5-0-1-1 registering at least four goals in each of their last five contests.

Rookie Aidan Spooner got his second start of his career for head coach Luca Caputi going against Patrick Leaver in the Gens net.

1st Period

The Frontenacs would go down by three goals after 20 minutes with Oshawa making the most of their scoring chances being outshot by Kingston 10-8 heading to the break.

The visitors had an early power play, but it was Kingston with two excellent opportunities. Lucas Edmonds had the best chance with Leaver closing the door on the Kingston forward breaking in alone trying to go five-hole.

Oshawa opened the scoring as Luke Torrence (2) ripped a one-timed a shot from the slot on a play the Kingston netminder had no chance on. The 1-0 goal came on the visitors first shot a minute after the Fronts had killed the penalty. Tye McSorley and Nikita Parfenyuk drew assists at 5:03.

It was a two-goal lead on another grade "A" chance from the hashmarks as Daniel Michaud fired a low shot past Spooner with Leyton Moore and McSorley assisting again at just over three minutes later.

Midway through the period Maddox Callens took exception by a hit by Oshawa's Riley Pitt and the two had a good tilt in a game featuring solid checks by both teams.

After the Frontenacs did a good job killing off a two-man disadvantage, the Generals scored twice in under a minute making it 4-0. Matthew Buckley (5) from David Jesus and Nikita Parfenyuk scored at 15:49 and after a mad scramble in the crease it was 4-0 at 16:31. Brett Harrison (5) banged away at a loose puck in front of a sprawling Spooner. Mcsorley registered his third point of the game with an assist.

A third penalty came right after the fourth visitor goal, but the first Generals penalty was cut short, and the Frontenacs had the remainder of the period with the extra-man. Lucas Peric (3) fired a seeing eye shot from the point after taking a pass from Wright to get Kingston on the board with under a minute left for a 4-1 score after one. Edmonds assisted with Wright on the powerplay at 19:01.

2nd Period

Kingston showed a trend of not giving up on games battling back with a two-goal second period outshooting the Generals 14-9 and making it a one-goal game heading to the final period.

After holding the Gens off the shot clock through the opening five minutes, Kingston made it 4-2 scoring a second powerplay marker. Frasca (6) scored off a nice deflection over the shoulder of Leaver after Martin Chromiak had made a nifty pass to the waiting forward in the crease. Edmonds also assisted at 6:05.

Kingston continued to push and after Ludwinski hit the post the Fronts got within one with just under three minutes left at 17:10. Jake Murray fired a low shot tipped by Martin Chromiak (8) in front of Leaver and it was 4-3 going to intermission. Rookie Matthew Soto earned a 10th assist placing him two points back of Oshawa's Calum Ritchie (16) in the OHL freshman scoring race and one back of North Bay's Ty Nelson for most assists.

3rd Period

Kingston had on a third powerplay early in the period, but a Generals shorthanded goal by Dawson McKinney (8) put the visitors up by pair 5-3 at 5:15.

Frontenacs got back within one score with Peric (4) scoring his second to getting it to 5-4 with under five minutes left firing a low shot past Leaver from the left circle at 15:18. Arcuri and Frasca had the assists.

However, the Generals finished the scoring 6-4 on a Cooper Way tally with under two minutes left as the Fronts tried to make a late-game push.
