Quad Cities River Bandits News Release
Fort Wayne, Indiana - The Quad Cities River Bandits and Fort Wayne TinCaps each claimed a 6-2 victory at Parkview Field on Thursday night, as they split a doubleheader, with Quad Cities completing the win of Wednesday's suspended game and the 'Caps winning the seven-inning game two.
The River Bandits rode their bullpen to victory in game one with Anthony Simonelli (4-0) tossing 2.2 shutout innings to earn the win and bridge Caden Monke's rain-shortened 2.1 inning start and Charlie Neuweiler's 3.0 scoreless relief outing.
Quad Cities' offense scored five of its six runs on Wednesday, taking their initial lead in the first on Luca Tresh's two-run single before Juan Carlos Negret homered in the second and Burle Dixon plated a run with a single in the third.
Fort Wayne's pair of runs came against Monke in the second inning on a two-run home run off the bat of Adam Kerner.
The lone run scored in the continuation was Luca Tresh's solo homer in the top of the ninth to give Christian Chamberlain a four-run cushion before his scoreless, game-ending frame in the bottom of the ninth.
In game two, it was Fort Wayne grabbing an early three-run lead on Jack Stronach's RBI ground-rule double and a two-run, two-out single by Ripken Reyes, however all but one run were marked unearned against Bandits' starter Noah Murdock.
Felix Famila got Quad Cities on the board in the top of the third with his first-career High-A hit, a solo homer off of Efrain Contreras, but the TinCaps responded with two more in their half of the inning, including one on a Kale Emshoff throwing error, one of two defensive miscues by the Bandits in the game.
In the fourth, trailing 5-1, Q.C. loaded the bases with no one out, but only plated one run on a Parker Bates RBI walk as Contreras struck out Morgan McCullough and Familia back-to-back to end the inning and limit the damage.
After Fort Wayne made it a 6-2 game in the fifth, marking a tally on a passed ball, Quad Cities again loaded the bases, this time in the top of the seventh, but Luke Boyd struck out Burle Dixon as the tying run at the plate to end the game.
Nick Twaits (1-2) ended up with the win for the TinCaps, tossing 2.0 scoreless as the first man out of the Fort Wayne bullpen, while Murdock (0-1) took his first loss, allowing five runs, one earned, in 3.0 innings.
Quad Cities will look to guarantee a split of the six-game set on Friday with Noah Cameron (0-0, 4.50) getting the ball for the Bandits against Fort Wayne's Robert Gasser (1-5, 3.96) for a 6:35pm first pitch at Parkview Field.
