Peoria Chiefs News Release
Peoria, IL - The Lake County bullpen collected the final 16 outs as they won their fourth straight against the Chiefs by a score of 3-2 on Friday. With the loss, the Chiefs have now dropped six in a row at Dozer Park.
After Peoria starter Dionys Rodriguez and Lake County starter Gavin Williams traded zeroes in the first, the Captains scratched an unearned run in the second. With runners on the corners and one out, Lake County's Gabriel Rodriguez hit a liner towards short that was caught by Mack Chambers. As Chambers threw to first to attempt to double off the runner, his throw hit Raynel Delgado in the back, allowing Petey Halpin to trot home from third.
Williams, who was Cleveland's first-round pick a year ago, worked through three scoreless innings with little trouble. In the fourth, however, he was forced to exit the game after being hit by a comebacker on his left wrist. With the bullpen forced to cover the rest of the game, Alaska Abney entered and recorded four outs to blank the fourth and fifth innings. The Captains then turned the ball over to Damon Casetta-Stubbs, who twirled three scoreless innings to keep the Captains in front, 1-0.
In the ninth, Lake County tacked on a pair of key insurance runs when Mike Amditis singled to left to score Delgado and Rodriguez. With a 3-0 deficit in the bottom of the ninth, the Peoria bats woke up. After a leadoff single from Todd Lott, Jacob Buchberger tripled him home to make it a 3-1 game. The next batter, Aaron Antonini, brought Buchberger in to score on a groundout. With the score 3-2, the Chiefs were unable to restart the rally, as Zach Hart completed the save. Casetta-Stubbs, who logged nine outs out of the bullpen, earned the win.
The Chiefs will look to snap their four-game skid at the hands of the Lake County Captains on Saturday when Austin Love looks for his third win in as many starts. The Chiefs will debut their specialty Orange Barrels jerseys for the first time Saturday. Tickets remain available for tomorrow's contest. First pitch is set for 6:35 p.m. A fireworks show will follow the conclusion of the game.
