Omaha Storm Chasers News Release
Albuquerque, N.M. - David Lough collected four hits and drove in two runs and Johnny Giavotella knocked in three runs as Omaha subdued Albuquerque, 11-4, in the third of a four-game set at Isotopes Park. The Storm Chasers improved to 16-10 and maintained their three-game cushion over Iowa in the American Conference Northern Division.
Giavotella and Eric Hosmer supplied back-to-back run-scoring singles in the third inning to give the Chasers a 2-0 advantage before Lucas May came through with a two-out, two-run single in the fourth to expand the margin to four.
Omaha starter Mike Montgomery blanked the Isotopes through six innings and was removed after Trent Oeltjen's leadoff single in the seventh. Greg Holland took over and allowed a double and a walk to load the bases before uncorking a wild pitch that allowed the hosts to score their first run.
Corey Smith brought in a run with a ground out and Damaso Espino's infield hit chased in another run later in the inning to trim the lead to 4-3 before the right-hander closed the door on any further comeback attempt.
Montgomery earned his second win after yielding one run on three hits while walking four and striking out one in his longest outing of the season. The left-hander also benefitted from four double plays that were turned behind him, including two that ended innings.
Omaha then put the game out of reach with a five-spot against Jon Link and Jon Huber in the eighth. Gregor Blanco, Lance Zawadzki and Lough each drove in a run before Giavotella's two-run single finished the seven-hit, 11-batter barrage.
Zawadzki finished 3-for-5 with two RBI and three runs scored while Hosmer reached base four times with three singles and a walk. Giavotella, Clint Robinson and Mike Moustakas each added a pair of hits in Omaha's fourth win in seven meetings with the Isotopes this season.
The series concludes Thursday evening with right-hander Vin Mazzaro taking the hill for Omaha against Albuquerque left-hander Alberto Bastardo. Coverage gets underway at 7:15 p.m. and can be heard locally on KOIL AM 1180 and online at omahastormchasers.com.
