May 5, 2011 - Pacific Coast League (PCL1)
Reno Aces News Release

LAS VEGAS- Reno put the tying and go-ahead runs on base with nobody out in the ninth, but a strikeout and ground ball double play ended the proceedings Wednesday night, as the Las Vegas 51s topped the Aces for the second-straight night, 4-3, at Cashman Field.

Reno scored twice in the eighth to carve into a three-run deficit. In the ninth, pinch hitter Evan Frey drew a walk in his first-career Triple-A plate appearance, and Tony Abreu singled to put runners on first and second to begin the frame. But Collin Cowgill struck out, and Cole Gillespie grounded into a game-ending 5-3 double play, giving Las Vegas its second-straight win and a 2-1 lead over Reno in the third chapter of the Silver State Diamond Challenge.

Aces starter Micah Owings (3-1) was pinned with the loss after surrendering four runs on eight hits over seven innings of work. Owings fell to 21-4 all-time in his Minor League career and took his first Minor League loss since May 17, 2006. Out of the Aces bullpen, Tom Layne worked a scoreless frame with two strikeouts.

The win went to 51s starter Brad Mills (2-2), who held the Aces to just a run on six hits over seven innings of work with seven strikeouts and just one base on balls. Danny Farquhar hung on in the ninth collect his second save of the season.

At the plate for Reno, Konrad Schmidt extended his hitting streak to a career-best 14 games. Abreu, Cowgill and Gillespie all finished with two hits on the night. Gillespie added his ninth triple of the season-most among all Minor League batters.
