The Tucson Padres wasted a four-run, ninth inning comeback Wednesday, losing to the Tacoma Rainiers 7-6. Entering the ninth, the Padres were trailing by three runs, when home runs by Anthony Rizzo and Matt Clark put them ahead by a run. In the bottom of the ninth inning, the Padres made two crucial errors, and the Rainiers celebrated a walk-off victory.

All four runs in the top of the ninth inning came with no outs. Aaron Cunningham singled just before Rizzo's home run, and Jesus Guzman walked and scored on Clark's home run. In the bottom of the ninth inning with one out, Alex Liddi's towering pop up was dropped by Guzman, and Liddi was safe at second on the error. With two outs, he scored on Matt Tuiasosopo's single. Tuiasosopo went to second on Cedric Hunter's throw home, advanced to third on a wild pitch by Luis Perdomo and then scored the winning run when Rizzo couldn't handle Josh Bard's ground ball and made the Padres fourth error of the night.

Cunningham was 2-for-3 with a walk and is now hitting .304. On April 18th, Cunningham was hitting .220. Matt Clark now has two home runs in the series, after not hitting any in the Padres first 24 games. Samuel Deduno pitched a scoreless inning of relief for the Padres.

Next Game: Thursday at 7:05 pm - Tucson RHP Simon Castro (2-1) vs. Tacoma LHP Chris Seddon (0-1)

Next Home Game: Tuesday, May 10th at 7:00 pm vs. Round Rock (Rangers affiliate)
