Bakersfield drops two against Valley foes

February 25, 2008 - ECHL (ECHL)
Bakersfield Condors News Release

BAKERSFIELD, Calif. - The Condors failed to gain ground in their hunt for the National Conference playoffs, dropping a pair of home games to division rivals Stockton on Saturday and Fresno on Sunday. Nearly 12,500 fans came out to see the Condors in action in the two games, including fan # 2 million in Condors history, Sawyer Robinson, on Sunday.

The Condors are 16-28-9 on the season and sit in fourth place in the Pacific Division, ninth place in the National Conference. Bakersfield trails the eighth place Phoenix RoadRunners by just two points in the standings for the final playoff spot, and the seventh place Stockton Thunder by four points. The Condors have one game in hand on the RoadRunners and two games remaining head-to-head, and one game left this season against the Thunder.

WEEK IN REVIEW (Home team in CAPS):

Saturday, Feb. 23

Stockton 5 vs. CONDORS 2

Attn: 6,648

The Condors received goals from LW Brett Lutes and C Eric Sonnenberg, but the visiting Stockton Thunder skated away with the 5-2 win. G Tim Boron was a difference maker for the Thunder, stopping 39 of 41 Condors shots between the pipes. G Yutaka Fukufuji made 28 saves in the loss for the Condors, who ran their record in the season series to

4-4-0.

Sunday, Feb. 24

Fresno 6 vs. CONDORS 1

Attn: 5,849

The Condors opened the scoring with a tally by LW Brett Lutes just 20 seconds into the game, but the Falcons reeled off six unanswered goals, all on starting G Michel Robinson, to take the win. Robinson, who vehemently protested the sixth and final tally, was then ejected from the game, as was Head Coach Marty Raymond. G Yutaka Fukufuji stopped all 22 shots he faced in relief.

LUCKY 2 MILLION!

Sawyer Robinson became the 2 millionth fan in Condors history, as he was the 528th fan to pass through the turnstiles on Sunday afternoon. The young Condors fan, and son of season ticket holders, was presented with a special prize pack in celebration of the attendance milestone. The prize pack included a Condors jersey personalized as "2 million", a commemorative plaque, tickets for the remainder of the season, a team-signed stick, upgraded seats for the night and a lottery ticket featuring the game's starting lineup, which hopefully will yield a $2 million payoff or more! His father received the lottery ticket. The Condors became just the fifth active club in the ECHL to reach the milestone, joining Charlotte, Dayton, Florida and South Carolina.
