
Rays Headed to the Kelly Cup Playoffs

Fundraising with the Rays:
This weekend, the South Carolina Stingrays are giving back as they host back-to-back fundraising nights at the North Charleston Coliseum.
First up is the annual Pink in the Rink Night on Saturday, March 1st at 7:05 p.m. The team takes on the Columbia Inferno on the ice while the Stingrays take on cancer off the ice. The team will be wearing specialty pink jerseys that will be auctioned off during the game as part of the silent auction. Other items being auctioned off include a signed Nashville Predators helmet by former Stingray Rich Peverley, a Stingrays jersey signed by Wayne Gretzky, and a two night stay at Wild Dunes. Pink Packs are currently available for purchase through the Stingrays front office with a portion of each Pink Pack going back to the American Cancer Society. Come out on March 1st and help the Stingrays raise money for the American Cancer Society.
The following day, Sunday, March 2nd, the Stingrays have teamed up with Exclusively Bimmers to raise money for the Equipping our Heroes Foundation with Salute to Heroes Night. The Equipping our Heroes Foundation is set up to raise money for equipment for some of the more rural fire departments in the area. Prior to the game, fans can tour a fire truck and the Stingrays will be giving away fireman hats to the kids. There is also pre-game hockey between members of the different fire departments against the Blueliners, which includes members of the various police departments. Community Update:
The Stingrays are continuing with the school visits to promote Hat Trick for Reading Night on Sunday, March 16th. Students from area schools were asked to read three books in a certain amount of time to receive two free tickets to the game on the 16th. To help encourage the students to read, the Stingrays have been going out every day to different schools and reading to the children. This week, the players will visit Knightsville Elementary, Boulder Bluff Elementary, and Beech Hill Elementary.
Latest in Hockey News:
The Stingrays were on the road most of the week as they looked to earn enough points to clinch a spot in the Kelly Cup Playoffs.
On Wednesday, the team traveled to Columbia to take on the Inferno. Behind two goals from Marty Guerin and stellar goaltending by Davis Parley, the team went on to win 5-1.
The Rays were on the road again on Thursday, this time in Charlotte. Rory Rawlyk scored his first goal of the season, but it wasn't enough as the Stingrays lost in overtime 2-3.
On Saturday, the Stingrays were in Augusta. The Lynx scored twice on the power play and had an empty net goal to win
4-1.
On Sunday, the team finally returned to the North Charleston Coliseum to host the Florida Everblades. After a busy second period where six goals were scored, both team held out in overtime to force a shootout. Davis Parley, in his first shootout of the season, held the 'Blades to just one goal and the Stingrays won 4-3. The victory on Sunday clinched a berth in the Kelly Cup Playoffs for this season.

ECHL Leaders:
Travis Morin is 6th in the league in scoring with 60 points (27g-33a) in 52 games. Morin also leads the league with his six short-handed goals and is 4th with his 208 shots on goal.
Grant McNeill has the league lead in minor penalties with 60 in 47 games. His 170 penalty minutes is first among defensemen and ten major penalties is third.
Nate Kiser has 11 major penalties on the year, which ranks him 2nd among defensemen.
In goalie news, Davis Parley is 8th among goalies with a 2.41 goals-against average.
Among rookies, the Stingrays have two of the top-20 point scorers. Travis Morin is 3rd with 60 points, and Pierre-Luc O'Brien's 42 points places him 15th. Morin's 27 goals also places him 2nd and O'Brien's 34 assists ties him for 4th. Morin has ten power play goals on the year, which is fifth among rookies and his six short-handed goals is first.
The Stingrays are tied for 2nd place in the South Division with the Gwinnett Gladiators with 71 points and are , one point ahead of Gwinnett and are tied for 3rd in the American Conference.
The Stingrays are 7th in the power play, converting 19.8% of the time, and 11th in the penalty kill, successful 83.6% of the time.
