Edmonton Oil Kings News Release

BINGHAMTON, N.Y. - The Binghamton Senators recorded four third-period goals, but their rally ultimately came up short as they fell to the visiting Rochester Americans 6-5.

The Amerks opened the scoring 12:30 into the first period when Evan Rodrigues managed to weave through the B-Sens defense before beating Scott Greenham over the glove hand for his second score of the year. Just over one minute later, Jason Akeson doubled Rochester's lead with a power-play strike before Phil Varone scored his eighth of the year with less than two minutes to play in the period. Andrey Makarov stopped all nine Binghamton shots in the opening 20 minutes to keep the visitor's lead at 3-0 going into the first break.

The Amerks added three goals in the opening 13:30 of the second period to open up the lead to 6-0. William Carrier's goal at 9:18 ended Greenham's night as Matt O'Connor came in relief. Binghamton's Zack Stortini broke up Makarov's shutout bid with less than six minutes remaining in the frame after he swiped home a great feed from Patrick Mullen for his third goal of the year. The B-Sens headed to the final intermission break trailing 6-1 while outshooting their visitors 12-7 over the period.

Matt Puempel began the Binghamton rally with his sharp-angled wrist shot that beat Makarov giving the B-Sens forward his fourth goal of the year. Less than 2:30 later, Darian Dziurzynski, who was skating in his first game with the B-Sens, cut the Amerks lead to 6-3. Chris Carlisle swiped home a rebound off a shot from Tobias Lindberg to push the score to 6-4 before Buddy Robinson notched his second goal of the season just past the midway mark of the period to make it 6-5. Binghamton's offense pressured the Amerks for the remainder of regulation, but ultimately came up short.

Makarov finished with 29 saves on 34 shots faced to earn the win. Greenham finished with 12 saves while O'Connor was dealt the loss allowing one goal on six shots faced.

Binghamton travels to Syracuse Friday, December 4, for a 7:00p.m. faceoff against the Crunch. Fans can listen live on US 96.9FM, WINR 680AM or on the iHeart Radio app.
