Portland Winterhawks News Release
The Portland Winterhawks (12-11-0-0) fell 2-0 to the visiting Vancouver Giants (6-16-2-2) Saturday at Veterans Memorial Coliseum in front of 7,150 fans.
After a scoreless first period, Chase Lang put the Giants up 1-0 with a goal 27 seconds into the second. The Hawks peppered the Giants with chances throughout the period, with 15 shots in the frame, but Vancouver maintained the one-goal lead going into the third.
The Giants made it a two-goal advantage at 12:36 when Tyler Benson scored off a rebound to give the visitors a 2-0 lead. The Hawks pressed throughout the third looking to get on the board, but the Giants turned them away and finished with the win.
Ryan Kubic stopped all 34 shots from the Hawks to earn his first career shutout. Adin Hill was in net for the Hawks, and made 36 saves on 38 shots.
Saturday's game was a Burgerville Daylight Classic, with the Coliseum's curtains open to allow sunlight into the arena bowl.
The Winterhawks now hit the road for a week for four games in British Columbia, beginning Tuesday in Prince George against the Cougars at 7 p.m.
