Edmonton Oil Kings News Release

The Edmonton Oil Kings cruised into Saskatoon riding a two-game winning streak to take on the Blades on Saturday night. While the offence didn't come in droves like their previous two matchups, the Oil Kings were able to find enough to hold on for the 3-1 win & end their two-game Saskatchewan road swing on a high note.

Edmonton (11-14-3-0) struck first late in the opening frame when Brandon Baddock stripped the puck, split the Blades defencemen & made no mistake finishing on the breakaway for his 8th on the year, giving the Oil Kings the 1-0 advantage. Saskatoon (10-12-3-0), however, evened things up just seven seconds into the 2nd period on a goal that had to be reviewed. Terrell Draude rifled one from the left side which appeared to bounce off the inside of the right post & out, but was eventually ruled a goal to knot things up 1-1 to start the 2nd.

The Oil Kings were quick to regain the lead, though. Andrew Koep capitalized on the power play just minutes later for his 7th on the year to put the Oil Kings up 2-1. That would end up being all the offence the Oil Kings needed as goaltender Patrick Dea was very solid between the pipes, turning aside 28 of 29 shots faced & earning first star honours in the process. Colton Kehler would add the insurance tally in the final minutes of the 3rd to lock things up for the Oil Kings.

After a tough three-game losing skid in mid-November, the Oil Kings have bounced back nicely & strung together a three-game winning streak, with victories in the last week coming against Regina, Prince Albert & Saskatoon with 12 goals along the way. Their win in Saskatoon slides them into 8th in the Eastern Conference with 25 points.

Next up for the Oil Kings will be a return to the cozy confines of Rexall Place to kick off a two-game homestand starting with the Swift Current Broncos (8-15-3-0) for their annual Teddy Bear Toss game on Saturday, December 5th at 7pm MT.
