B-Mets Thump Erie 12-3

The Binghamton Mets came into Jerry Uht Park on Monday night and thumped the Erie SeaWolves by a count of 12-3 in front of 4,930 fans.

The Mets would strike first in the top of the second inning against Erie starter Luis Marte. Salomon Manriquez led off the inning and drew a walk. Mike Carp followed and connected on an opposite-field two-run home run, his 11th, putting the B-Mets ahead 2-0.

Binghamton would take a commanding 7-0 lead in the top of the fourth inning. Manriquez led off with a double and Carp walked to put a pair on. The runners advanced on a wild pitch. Ambiorix Concepcion grounded home Manriquez for a 3-0 lead. Caleb Stewart walked with one out and Emmanuel Garcia singled home Carp for a 4-0 lead. Later in the inning, Fernando Martinez connected on his fifth home run against reliever Brendan Wise. The three-run shot gave the Mets the seven-run advantage.

The SeaWolves would get on the board in the bottom of the sixth against Binghamton starter Tobi Stoner. Casper Wells and Deik Scram each singled to start the inning. Ryan Roberson followed and grounded into a fielder's choice leaving runners on the corners for Jeff Frazier. Frazier, with two hits in the game, connected on a sacrifice fly to center, scoring Wells to make it a 7-1 game in favor of the Mets.

In the top of the seventh, the Mets would increase their lead. Martinez led off with a single, his third hit of the game. Daniel Murphy then crushed his 12th home run of the season off of reliever Marcelo Perez for a 9-1 lead. Manriquez then doubled for his second hit of the game and would score on a Concepcion single for a 10-1 lead.

The B-Mets would take their largest lead of the night in the top of the ninth. Carp doubled and was doubled home by Stewart for an 11-1 lead. Stewart would score on a Jonathan Malo single for a 12-1 Binghamton edge.

The ‘Wolves would score a pair in the bottom of the ninth inning. Pedro Cotto singled with one out and reached third base on a pair of wild pitches. Santo De Leon picked up an RBI on a fielder's choice scoring Cotto to make it 12-2. Will Rhymes then walked and Wells walked for the second time in the game to load the bases. Diek Scram drew a bases loaded walk, scoring De Leon to make it a 12-3 game. The ‘Wolves however, would get no closer.

Marte took the loss for the ‘Wolves dropping his record to 0-2. Marte, limited to 75 pitches due to his first start since returning from the DL, allowed six runs on four hits with three walks and a strikeout.

Tobi Stoner (1-4) picked up the win for the Mets.

The loss dropped the SeaWolves to 0-11 on Monday's.
