Powerball...The Aeros and SeaWolves combined to hit three home runs to account for all the runs in Akron's 3-1 loss to Erie yesterday afternoon. Santo De Leon's first home run of the season gave Erie a 1-0 lead in the third inning, but Aeros 1B Stephen Head countered with his eighth home run, a solo blast with one out in the seventh to it at 1-1. In the top of the eighth though, a throwing error by 3B Wes Hodges gave Erie an extra out, and with two down Ryan Roberson's belted a Tony Sipp offering off the top of the batter's eye in straight-away center for the winning runs.
Lying Out...Outside of two errors by Hodges the defense was stellar yesterday, led by CF Trevor Crowe. He made a diving catch in shallow center to rob Will Rhymes, the first batter of the game, and then took extra-bases away from Jeff Frazier in the sixth inning on a full-extension snag in right-center. He also prevented a run in the fifth by gunning Louis Ott at the plate, who was trying to score on a Rhymes single. The throw reached C Damaso Espino on the fly to nail Ott by several feet.
Go-Go Gone...The Aeros received RHP Frank Herrmann from Buffalo so he can return to the rotation and make his start today. To make room for him on the roster, the Aeros transferred OF Ryan Goleski to Class A Kinston. On the year, Goleski is hitting .241 with 12 doubles, eight home runs, and 24 RBI.
Did You Know...With Bowie's win last night, Akron's magic number to clinch a playoff spot remained at 36.
