Jackson And Coke Win Eastern League Player Of The Week Awards

(PORTLAND, ME) - The Trenton Thunder, the Double-A affiliate of the New York Yankees, have announced that Outfielder Austin Jackson has been named the Bank of America Eastern League Player of the Week for the week ending July 20th. As well, LHP Phil Coke has been named the Bank of America Eastern League Pitcher of the Week for the week ending July 20th.

Jackson had an outstanding week for the Thunder, hitting .643 (9-for-14) with three doubles, one home run, five runs scored, two RBI, two walks, one stolen base and a 1.071 slugging percentage over four games. Jackson, who is a native of Denton, Texas, had multiple hits in three out of the four games he played in last week, including going 4-for-4 with two doubles, two runs scored and one RBI in an 8-1 win at Portland. In addition to his performance with the Thunder last week, the 6'1", 185 lb. slugger also started in centerfield for the Northern Division in the 2008 Northeast Delta Dental All-Star Game on Wednesday night at Merchantsauto.com Stadium and went 1-for-4 with one double, one RBI and one run scored. Austin, who is ranked second in the league in hits (115), was selected by the New York Yankees in the eighth round of the 2005 draft out of Ryan High School.

Coke, a native of Sonora, California, made a pair of starts for the Thunder last week and had a record of 2-0 with 21 strikeouts and a 0.00 ERA in 14.0 innings of work. The 6'1", 210 lb. hurler appeared in relief last Monday afternoon at Waterfront Park against Binghamton, and surrendered only three hits and one walk over eight shutout innings. He also struck out 11 to earn the win. Coke made his second start of the week on Saturday night and celebrated his 26th birthday by earning his ninth win of the season at Portland, striking out 10 batters while limiting the Portland offense to two hits and four walks over six scoreless innings. Phil, who ranks second in the league in strikeouts (109), third in ERA (2.60) and tied for fifth in wins (9), was selected by the New York Yankees in the 26th round of the 2002 draft out of San Joaquin Delta Junior College.

Trenton opens up a four-game series tonight against the New Hampshire Fisher Cats, the Double-A affiliate of the Boston Red Sox, at Merchantsauto.com Stadium in Manchester, NH. Game time is set for 7:05 P.M. RHP George Kontos (3-9, 3.54) will start for Trenton against New Hampshire RHP Kenny Rodriguez (1-2, 6.60). Trenton will return to Waterfront Park on Friday July 25th to take on Portland.
