Austin FC News Release
Austin, TEXAS - Austin FC lost, 1-0, to the Colorado Rapids tonight in front of another energetic, sellout crowd at Q2 stadium. Rapids forward Andre Shinyashiki scored the lone goal of the match in the 29th minute.
The goal came in when Michael Barrios found himself in a pocket of space and slipped a through ball to Shinyashiki. After his initial shot deflected off multiple Austin defenders and goalkeeper Brad Stuver, Shinyashiki made the final touch into the goal from the ground.
Austin had quality chances near the end of the first half when Alex Ring put a set piece header over the bar and Rodney Redes got behind the Colorado defense but couldn't set his feet for a shot. Stuver made two quality stops on Michael Barrios in first-half stoppage time to keep the score 1-0 entering halftime.
The run of play heavily shifted towards the Verde & Black in the second half. Hector Jiménez fired a blast from long range, and Diego Fagundez forced Colorado defender Lalas Abubakar to make a goal line clearance. Austin's Tomás Pochettino misfired over the bar in 63rd minute after a promising feed put him near the penalty spot.
