Allen Americans News Release
Allen, Texas - The Allen Americans defeated the Tulsa Oilers for a second night in a row, this time by a score of 5-1 to improve to 13-4-0-0.
The Americans jumped on the board first in the opening frame, when Gary Steffes fired home his team leading 12th of the season to give Allen a 1-0 lead from Jack Combs and Chad Costello. Allen held an 11-8 advantage in shots after one period.
Chad Costello and Justin Baker scored 18 seconds apart in the second period to put Allen up 3-0. Matt Larke cut the lead to 3-1 at the 10:47 mark from John Booras and Charles Lachance, in what would turn out to be the only Oilers goal of the night. Spencer Asuchak would make it 4-1 before the period came to a close and the Americans held a 24-21 edge in shots on goal.
Allen would cash in one more time in the final period on Chad Costello's second of the night, and third point to put Allen up 5-1. The Americans, behind some strong goaltending by Raphael Girard, would hold on for the victory.
The Americans and Oilers resume their week long series on Friday night at the BOK Center with a 7:35 pm puck drop. With the Americans victory tonight, they have a three point lead over second place Tulsa.
