Tulsa Oilers News Release

ALLEN, TX - On the heels of a 7-4 loss at home on Tuesday, the Tulsa Oilers were defeated by the same opponent, in a similar fashion on Wednesday night. The Allen Americans posted a 5-1 victory over the Oilers in front of 2,924 at the Allen Event Center. Chad Costello scored two goals and dished out an assist to lead the Americans' attack. Allen has won four straight games over Tulsa in the season series and has won 10 of its last 11 games. The Oilers suffered back-to-back regulation losses for only the second time this season and dropped to 10-7-3 overall.

For the second straight night, the Americans scored the first goal of the game. A nifty passing play between Chad Costello, Jack Combs, and Gary Steffes resulted in Steffes' twelfth goal of the season at the 9:07 mark. The puck moved rapidly between the sticks of the Allen forwards and Steffes was able to flick the puck past Oilers goalie Brady Hjelle to give the home team a 1-0 edge. The team scoring first has won six of the seven meetings so far this season.

The quick-strike capability of the Allen offense was once again on display in the second period. Costello scored his first of the night on a power play at 5:40 and Justin Baker followed just 18 seconds later with his fourth goal of the season to break the game open and give Allen a 3-0 advantage. Tulsa winger Matt Larke fired the only shot of the night that beat Raphael Girard at 10:47 of the middle frame but the Oilers would come no closer. Spencer Asuchak, who scored a goal in Tuesday's win, snapped a puck over the glove hand of Hjelle at 18:35 to restore Allen's three-goal lead.

Just 61 seconds into the third period, Costello turned an Oilers turnover into his second goal of the night with a wrist shot past Hjelle from the right face off circle. Costello has nine points in seven games this season against the Oilers and helped his team take a three point lead over Tulsa for first place in the Central Division.

The two clubs combined for three fights and 80 penalty minutes (47-Allen, 33-Tulsa). The Oilers finished 0-for-7 on the power play and are now a combined 0-for-17 on the man-advantage in their last two losses. Girard, making his first start for the Americans, stopped 28 of the 29 shots he faced and earned his first win of the season. Hjelle fell to 0-2-1 on the year with all three losses at the hands of the Americans.

The Oilers and Americans will face off again on Friday at 7:35 p.m. at the BOK Center for their eighth meeting of the season.
