December 3, 2014 - ECHL (ECHL)
Indy Fuel News Release
INDIANAPOLIS - In the fourth of ten head-to-head meetings between the two teams this season, the Indy Fuel outdueled the Evansville IceMen on Wednesday at Indiana Farmers Coliseum by a final score of 5-3. With the win, Indy's second consecutive victory, the Fuel improved to 5-9-2-2 overall this season and with 14 points, pulled into a tie for sixth place in the ECHL's North Division standings.
Fuel forward Patrick Cullen broke the ice for Indy on Wednesday, as the Washington, DC native nudged home his sixth goal of the season at 12:15 of the first, a power-play tally assisted by Garett Bembridge and Nick Bruneteau that made it 1-0 Fuel. Indy extended their lead late in the frame when Bembridge buried a rising backhander at 18:31 to push the Fuel lead to 2-0. Evansville scrapped back in the period's final minute, however, as Brandon Wong was credited with a power-play marker at 19:40 that drew the IceMen within a goal at 2-1 heading into the first intermission.
In the middle frame, a see-saw battle continued as Robert Czarnik knifed home his tenth of the season at 3:15 to push the Fuel advantage to 3-1 before Myles Bell responded at 10:46 for the IceMen with his eighth score of the season. Czarnik's big period wasn't done though, as Kirill Gotovets was able to find Indy's top scorer on the far doorstep at 19:11 and the Detroit native didn't miss, roofing a top-shelf finish past Evansville goaltender Chris Driedger to push Indy into the second intermission with a 4-2 lead intact.
The IceMen again cut the Fuel edge to one with an Andre Bouvet-Morrissette tally at 2:56 of the third, but Adam McKenzie spirited home his second of the season at 9:02 to seal the Indy win with Bembridge and Justin Holl collecting assists on the play. Bembridge finished with four points (1G, 3A) to lead all Fuel skaters and the Saskatoon, Saskatchewan native now has seven points (4G, 3A) in his past three games.
Cody Reichard earned the win in net for the Fuel by virtue of a 27 save performance, improving to 5-4-1-0 in his team-leading 11th appearance of the season while Driedger made 22 saves on 27 shots faced in defeat for the IceMen.
