Americans Fall in Heartbreaker to Chiefs

The Americans matched up against the Spokane Chiefs tonight for the third time this season. Coming off four straight overtime victories the Americans fell to the Chiefs 2-1 in Spokane.

Defenseman Dominic Schmiemann scored his second goal of the season with a shot from the point to give the Americans an early lead in the first period.

Luke Toporowski would tie the game for Spokane at 14:35 second period. The goal came on the power play after Schmiemann took an interference penalty. The game remained tied at one into the third period.

With just under five minutes remaining in the game Americans captain Nolan Yaremko scored a goal that was immediately waved off for contact with Spokane's goaltender Bailey Brkin. Tri-City was unable to find the net again.

San Jose Sharks prospect Jake McGrew scored with three seconds remaining to steal a win for Spokane. - The Americans will get a rematch against the Chiefs at home on Monday, New Year's Eve. There are still tickets remaining for the game. Purchase from Ticketmaster or the Toyota Center Box Office (opens Monday at 10 a.m.).
