Blades Bounce Back in Big Way

Nine different skaters scored for the Saskatoon Blades on Sunday afternoon in a 9-3 rout of the Swift Current Broncos in Swift Current. The Blades improve to 22-11-5-0 on the season and will return home to host the same Broncos on New Year's Day at SaskTel Centre at 2:00pm.

HOW IT WENT DOWN

The goals came fast and furious in the first period as Kristian Roykas-Marthinsen (10) got things going just 11 seconds into the game. Max Gerlach (21) scored just over five minutes later before Billy Sowa (1) answered for the Broncos.

Then it was time for a pair of firsts for a couple of Blades' defensemen. Majid Kaddoura (1) came right back for the Blades with his 1st career WHL goal to restore the two goal lead for Saskatoon. Then Nolan Kneen (5) made it 4-1 for the visiting Blades with his 5th of the season and first in a Blades uniform. The Broncos would respond again late in the period to make it 4-2 at the first break.

After notching two assists in the opening period, Kirby Dach (15) made it 5-2 for Saskatoon after some slick moves on a short-handed breakaway. Still on the power play, Swift Current scored 15 seconds later through rookie Finnish import Joona Kiviniemi (10). 45 seconds after that, Riley McKay (6) got in on the action with a low backhand shot off a partial breakaway making in 6-3 Saskatoon 6:51 into the middle frame.

Chase Wouters (6), Zach Huber (7), and Josh Paterson (11) all tallied in the third period to increase the damage to a final score fo 9-3.

Nolan Maier made 12 saves for his 18th victory of the season as the Blades outshot the Broncos 47-15.

Kristian Roykas-Marthinsen (1 goal) extends point streak to 6 games (3G-3A)

Kirby Dach surpassed the century mark in career points moving to 101 career WHL points.

Dawson Davidson had 2 assists to extend his point streak to 6 games (1G-6A). Dawson is now tied for 2nd among defensemen scoring in the WHL.

Gary Haden had 2 assists giving him 10 points in his last 6 games.

Riley McKay (1G,1A) had his first multi-point game of the season.

UNSUNG HERO

Emil Malysjev was a career high +3, had 1 assist, 4 shots on goal, and was a steady defender throughout the game.
