Reading, PA - The Allen Americans, ECHL affiliate of the Minnesota Wild, dropped a second straight to the Reading Royals, dropping their sixth in a row.
The Americans tied the score in the opening period with their fourth power play goal in the last two games. Zach Pochiro blasted one past Andrew D'Agostini for his team-leading 14th of the season, to even the score at one each. Alex Breton and Adam Miller with the assists on the Allen goal. The score would remain tied after one, with the Royals outshooting the Americans 11 to 8.
The Royals jumped on the Americans early in the second period, just six seconds in. Reading's leading scorer, Steven Swavely found the back of the net for his 12th goal of the season. Americans netminder Jeremy Brodeur, who was the best player on the ice for either team, made spectacular save after spectacular save in that second frame to keep Allen in the game.
The Americans cut the lead to one goal in the third, when Garrett Clarke blasted one home from the right point for his first goal of the season. The one-goal affair would last just two minutes and two seconds, as Royals forward Chris McCarthy sent a wrister over the glove of Brodeur for his fourth goal of the season, and the Royals regained their two goal lead.
The Americans, playing shorthanded, would fight to the end but were unable to tie the game and suffer their fifth straight loss on the current road trip and their sixth loss in a row overall.
The same two teams battle it out tomorrow afternoon at 4:05 pm CST. Allen returns home next Wednesday night to meet Cincinnati. Tickets for all three games next week are on sale NOW online at www.allenamericans.com.
