Alcántara, top of the order lift Sacramento past Salt Lake

September 3, 2021 - Pacific Coast League (PCL)
Sacramento River Cats News Release

West Sacramento, Calif. - The Sacramento River Cats (45-55) downed the visiting Salt Lake Bees (43-59) for the series-opening victory thanks to another home run via shortstop Arismendy Alcántara.

Sacramento went up 3-0 in the third, and Salt Lake knotted things back up at three in the fourth. This set up Alcántara, who was slated to play for Salt Lake prior to MiLB's 2020 season cancellation, for the go-ahead shot.

In 14 games vs the Bees, Alcántara is 16-for-53 (.302) with 15 runs, eight home runs, 17 RBIs, and a 1.184 OPS.

In addition to Alcántara, center fielder Steven Duggar (1-for-4 with two runs, an RBI, and a walk), right fielder Heliot Ramos (3-for-5 with a run and two RBIs), and first baseman Jason Krizan (3-for-5 with an RBI) all had solid days atop the batting order.

Krizan extended his hitting streak to eight games. Over that stretch, he is 17-for-33 (.515) with seven runs, five home runs, 10 RBIs, and a 1.528 OPS.

Over his last eight games, Ramos is 13-for-37 (.351) with two doubles, two home runs, five runs, 11 RBIs, three stolen bases, and a .936 OPS.

The River Cats look to make it three in a row on Orange Friday. A TBD will take on Salt Lake lefty Jhonathan Diaz (0-1, 2.70) at 7:05 p.m. (PT). Listen to Johnny Doskow call the game live online at rivercats.com or on the MiLB First Pitch app.

Additional Notes

Lefty Scott Kazmir was excellent through 3.2 innings before a two-strike catcher's interference sparked a rally and led to three runs and a tie game. The 2020 Tokyo Olympics Silver medalist struck out a season-high six, while allowing three runs (two earned) on four hits in 4.0 innings.

Flame-throwing right-hander Camilo Doval (3-0) was nearly untouchable over 2.0 innings, striking out four, while allowing just one hit. Righty Yunior Marte was just as strong, earning his second save of the season, by striking out three with just one hit allowed over 2.0 innings.
