Reno Aces News Release
RENO, Nev. - The Reno Aces bats exploded tonight, beating the Tacoma Rainiers 16-7 in game one of a six-game series with major implications on the team's race for a Triple-A West pennant. The win moved Reno to 60-41, with a one game lead on the Rainiers for the West division and a slim winning percentage advantage on the 60-43 Sugar Land Skeeters of the East division.
Cooper Hummel and Juniel Querecuto led the way with four RBIs apiece, and Seth Beer and Henry Ramos each had four RBIs on the night. Ramos' five hits marked the fourth time this season a player earned five hits in a game.
The Aces started the scoring in the second inning, hanging three runs on five hits to jump out to the 3-0 lead. Henry Ramos led off the inning with a double, coming around to score on a blast to right from Cooper Hummel. Juniel Querecuto followed it up with a double in the next at-bat, scoring on a single from Jose Herrera to make it 3-0 Aces.
Tacoma was able to put up one run in the top of the third, making it a 3-1 game. Reno was able to answer right back with another three-run inning.
Hummel was right back in on the action in the third, scoring Seth Beer on a sacrifice fly to make it a 4-1 game. Querecuto went on to single and score Ramos, and would come around to score from third after stealing and making it home on a throwing error to make it 6-1.
Reno blew the game open in the fourth, scoring four to make it a 10-1 game. After Alek Thomas led off with a single, Ildemaro Vargas put one on the berm in right field to make 8-1. Beer would score on another sacrifice fly, this time coming from Jamie Ritchie to make it 9-1. Querecuto would ground out, but score Ramos and make it 10-1 heading into the fifth.
In the fifth, Ramos picked up his fourth hit of the night to score Vargas and make it 11-1. Hummel went on to single and score Beer, the third time Beer crossed the plate to that point.
Aces starter Luis Frias was relieved after the fifth, after allowing just two hits and one run through the first five frames.
Tacoma picked up three runs in the top of the seventh, making it a 12-4 Aces lead.
Reno answered in a big way in the bottom of the seventh, with Beer scoring on a Ritchie single. Querecuto singled to score Ramos and Ritchie, before Alek Thomas walked with the bases loaded to score Hummel and make it a 16-4 Aces lead.
Tacoma scored three in the top of the eighth to make it a 16-7 Reno lead heading into the ninth.
Ty Tice entered for the ninth, pitching a perfect frame to seal the 16-7 win.
In the end, all nine Aces batters finished with a hit, six finished with multiple, and seven finished with at least one RBI. Seven batters scored a run and the team finished with a whopping 19 runs.
