Alaska Wins Wild Contest 5-3

Anchorage, Alaska - The Alaska Aces scored an empty-netter in the final minute to beat the Utah Grizzlies 5-3 in a wild contest Saturday evening at Sullivan Arena.

Utah made the game 4-3 with 8:51 left in regulation as Vinny Scarsella tipped in a Channing Boe blast on the power-play, but was unable to tie the contest up despite clanging a post in the final minute with the team in a six-on-five situation.

Utah went up 1-0 4:31 into the game as Kris Hogg hammered in a Teigan Zahn shot for his seventh goal of the year. Zahn emerged from the penalty box and led the Grizzlies up ice. Michael Pelech also picked up an assist.

The Aces however drew seven power-plays in the first period and scored two power-play goals to take a 2-1 lead with five seconds left to go in the frame.

The Grizzlies hung tough killing off 3:35 shorthanded to start the second period, even scoring a shorthanded goal from Teigan Zahn to make it 2-2. Utah was shorthanded for 11:57 of the first 23:35 in the contest.

Alaska scored 2 goals in 1:46 to break the 2-2 tie however and took a 4-2 lead to the third period.

Utah wraps up their six-game road trip Friday in Colorado. Face-off from Loveland is scheduled for 7:05 p.m.

The Grizzlies return to Maverik Center Saturday, December 28 and Tuesday, December 31 at 6 p.m. December 28 is a post-game skate with the Grizzlies. For New Year's Eve, fans can take advantage of $2 Hot Dogs, $2 Fries, $2 Soft Drinks and $2 Draft Beers.
