TONIGHT:
The Ontario Reign (19-3-1-3) host the Stockton Thunder (13-9-0-4) for the final game of this three-game series. This is Ontario's final home game of 2013 and they're looking to end the year with another win. So far the Reign have a perfect 6-0 record against the Thunder with four regulation victories and two shootout victories.
With 42 points, the Reign hold a 12-point lead over the Thunder in the Pacific Division and a five-point lead over the Colorado Eagles in the Western Conference. Overall the Reign are currently the top team in the ECHL; they're hanging on to that title with a one-point advantage over the South Carolina Stingrays of the Eastern Conference and South Division.
SPECIAL SITUTATIONS:
Last night the Thunder were the first to score and, going into last night's game, had an 8-2-0-1 record in that situation; when trailing after the first, the Reign had a 5-1-1-2 record which improved to 6-1-1-2 with their win.
The Thunder outshot the Reign 22-18, a season-low for Ontario. In the times the Reign has been outshot, they have lost in regulation just once and hold a record of 6-1-0-2. In games with a three-goal differential; Ontario has lost just once with a 4-1-0-0 record, but the Thunder have not been able to crack the curse and are 0-5-0-0 in that situation.
BETWEEN THE PIPES:
The Reign have been able to count on Michael Hutchinson for 16 wins in 20 games so far this season with Mathias Niederberger on reserve. Niederberger was recently activated from reserve and has dressed for the last two games. Right now, Hutchinson leads the league in wins (16) and minutes (1190), ranks second among active goalies with a 2.02 goals-against average and is tied for the lead with three shootout wins.
