Akron RubberDucks News Release
After a 47-minute pregame rain delay, the Akron RubberDucks walked off the Binghamton Rumble Ponies 5-4 at Canal Park on Tuesday's "Union Home Mortgage Welcomes You Home" Home Opener.
Turning Point
Trailing 4-2 after a blown save in the top half of the ninth inning, the Ducks strung together three straight quality at-bats by drawing back-to-back walks just before Oscar Gonzalez crushed a 1-0 fastball deep into left field for a walk-off three-run home run, giving the RubberDucks their first victory of the 2021 campaign in dramatic fashion.
Mound Presence
Eli Lingos started the game for the Ducks marking the first time in an Akron jersey since July 6, 2019 and was jumped on early by the Rumble Ponies. An RBI single led to a run in the first, but Lingos would settle in from there and worked scoreless second and third inning before Akron turned to the bullpen in the fourth. Aaron Pinto would follow giving up an RBI single in the fourth before reclaiming his composure and delivering a scoreless fifth. Jake Miednik tossed a scoreless seventh and eighth striking out one Rumble Pony along the way.
Duck Tales
The Akron bats were held down early by Binghamton starter Tylor Megill but were able to scratch across one run in the third when Jose Fermin doubled for the first Akron hit of the season in the third inning before crossing home on a Tyler Freeman RBI single. After stranding runners on base on both the fifth and the sixth innings, the RubberDucks were able to even the score in the eighth inning when Bo Naylor singled to right fielding which brought home Steve Kwan and tied the score at 2-2 headed into the final inning.
