. Opponents have out-scored the Akron Aeros 37 to 16 during the team's season-high six-game losing streak dating back to last Saturday night at Canal Park against Reading.
Aerodynamics.
. Thursday Trauma. The Altoona Curve completed a four-game sweep of the Aeros with a 6-1 victory Thursday night at Blair County Ballpark. The two starters, Akron's Kelvin De La Cruz and Altoona's Tony Watson, combined to retire the first 21 batters of the game before the Curve struck first in the bottom of the fourth. A crucial throwing error by De La Cruz was the crucial blow as three hits plated four hits in the frame. Third baseman Lonnie Chisenhall plated the lone Aeros run with an RBI single in the top of the eighth inning before Altoona rallied again to provide for the final margin. A Chisenhall throwing error and an RBI infield single extended the lead to five as Watson (4-1) allowed just two hits in the victory and De La Cruz (4-6) took the loss.
. Cruising Along. Thursday's defeat marked the end of a career-high three-game winning streak for the left-handed starting pitcher De La Cruz. He delivered five innings pitched in Altoona last night, allowing four runs with five strikeouts and one walk but four runs (only one earned) total. The 22-year-old has been much improved recently after a rocky start at the Double-A level, going 3-1 with a 2.37 ERA and 29 strikeouts against 15 walks in 25.1 innings pitched in his last six starts since July. This follows a 10-game streak with no wins for the Dominican Republic native who joined Cleveland's 40-man roster in November.
. Feelin' Fine. Left fielder Tim Fedroff returned to action for the start of this road trip and had his finest game in a while Thursday night. Fedroff left in the middle of a victory July 24th at Reading before missing the next 10 days of Aeros games. He returned to the lineup as the designated hitter Tuesday and finished 2-for-4 at the plate in his return to the outfield yesterday. Overall, the University of North Carolina product is batting .413 (33-for-80) with 14 runs scored his last 21 games dating back to June 30th.
. Snapping Turtle. Chisenhall drove home the lone Akron run Thursday, ending a prolonged slump at the plate for Cleveland's 2008 first-round draft pick. He began the series at Altoona 0-for-14 offensively with three strikeouts and a double play before his eighth inning RBI base hit last night. The 21-year-old is now batting .270 in 85 games for Akron this season with 12 home runs and 54 RBI and he started the year as the second-ranked prospect in the Indians organization, according to Baseball America.
. Rookie of the Year. Former Aeros stars Jeanmar Gomez and Josh Tomlin have impressed in their stints with Cleveland in 2010. The two right-handers have combined for 2-1 record and a 2.30 ERA in five combined starts since last week's promotions. Gomez was the 2009 Eastern League Pitcher of the Year and Tomlin was 14-9 with a 4.16 ERA in Double-A last season.
. New Beginnings. Akron's road trip continues this weekend as the team heads to New Britain, CT for their only road series with the Rock Cats this season. New Britain sits in last place in the Eastern League's Eastern Division with a 33-79 record, trailing division-leading Trenton and New Hampshire by 33 games already. The Aeros were only 2-4 against New Britain in 2009.
