Thunder Rally In Seventh For Win

Trenton, NJ- The Thunder rallied for seven runs in the seventh inning on their way to a 7-4 victory over the Binghamton Mets on Friday night at Waterfront Park. The win combined with a New Hampshire loss moves Trenton (67-46) into sole possession of first place.

The Thunder sent 11 men to the plate in the seventh inning and picked up RBI hits from Luis Nunez, Corban Joseph, Austin Romine and Daniel Brewer. Binghamton used three relievers in the inning as the Thunder charged to a 7-4 lead.

The Mets took the lead early as they touched RHP Andrew Brackman for four runs, including three in the fifth inning. Binghamton sent nine batters to the plate and started the scoring with an RBI double by Zach Lutz. Later in the inning Brackman issued a bases loaded walk to Josh Satin, pushing the B-Mets ahead 3-0.

J.B. Cox relieved Brackman with the bases loaded in the fifth and walked the first batter before striking out Brahiam Maldonaldo to end the inning. Brackman tossed 4 2/3 innings and allowed four runs (three earned) with five strikeouts in a no-decision. Cox, Ryan Pope (3-6) and Kevin Whelan held Binghamton scoreless over the final 4 1/3 innings in the victory. Whelan struck out the side in the ninth to earn his third save of the season.
