August 6, 2010 - Eastern League (EL1) News Release

The Eastern League is pleased to announce that Akron Aeros first baseman/right fielder Matt McBride has been selected as the Eastern League Player of the Month for the month of July. The 6'2", 215 lb. slugger kicked off his month by hitting three home runs in Akron's 5-0 win at Bowie on July 1st. That performance kick started a month for Matt in which he batted .364 (32-for-88) with 10 doubles, 11 home runs, 29 RBI, 21 runs scored, a .418 on-base percentage and an .852 slugging percentage over 23 games. McBride, who is a native of Bethlehem, Pennsylvania, reached base in all but one of the games he played in during the month of July, including reaching base in each of the final 17 games he played in for the Aeros during the month. Matt finished as the league leader in home runs (11), RBI (29), slugging percentage (.852), OPS (1.271) and total bases (75) for the month of July. He also ranked second in extra-base hits (21), fourth in batting average (.364), tied for sixth in doubles (10) and tied for eighth in runs scored (21).

The 25-year old was rewarded for his strong performance with a promotion on July 29th to the Columbus Clippers of the Triple-A International League. At the time of his promotion, he was hitting .285 and leading the Aeros in doubles (25), homers (17) and RBI (64). He also managed to reach base safely in all 44 road games he played in with the Aeros this season, which is the longest streak of its kind in the Eastern League this season.

McBride has picked up in his Triple-A debut right where he left off in Akron, hitting .400 with one home run, five runs scored and three RBI in his first six games with the Clippers. Matt, who hit .247 with 29 doubles, 12 homers, 63 RBI and 48 runs scored over 98 games while making his Double-A debut with Akron last season, was selected by the Cleveland Indians in the supplemental second round of the 2006 draft after hitting .417 with 12 home runs and 61 RBI during his junior season at Lehigh University.
