Milwaukee Admirals News Release

Milwaukee, WI- The Milwaukee Admirals clinched a spot in the post-season with their 3-2 shootout win over the San Antonio Rampage Wednesday night at the Bradley Center, regaining sole possession of first place in the West Division, increasing their point streak to five games, and reaching the playoffs for the ninth consecutive season.

A spectacular performance by Milwaukee Admirals netminder Atte Engren, who made 32 saves, in his first appearance on home ice lead the Admirals to a nail-biting shootout victory.

After a scoreless first period, San Antonio got on board at 2:42 of the second on a power-play goal by Garrett Stafford. Dane Byers banked the puck off the boards behind the net to Stafford at the bottom of the left circle. He lifted the puck over the shoulder of Engren to give the Rampage a 1-0 lead.

Milwaukee answered back at 12:12 of the second on Teemu Laakso's third power-play goal of the season. Thuresson passed the puck from the top of the left circle to Mark Santorelli who made a quick pass across the slot to Laakso at the right post. Laakso lifted the puck high over San Antonio goaltender Matt Climie's glove to tie the game at one. Thuresson boosted his point streak to six games by notching an assist on the marker.

Just two minutes later, Grant Lewis put the Admirals up 2-1. With an extra attacker on the ice, Steve Begin passed the puck behind the net to Kelsey Wilson at the right post. Wilson fed the puck to Lewis who cut to the slot and put the puck five-hole on Climie. Begin recorded his first point on home ice since January 21 while Wilson extended his point streak to a career high of five straight games.

At 17:56 of the second period, Randy Robitaille tied the game at two. Engren was positioned at the left post and Robitaille made a pass that hit Brock McBride's skate and sailed to the back of the net.

Neither team was able to net the game-winner in the third period or extra time. Milwaukee went 3-1 in the shootout with Gabriel Bourque, Roman Josi, and Thuresson all making successful shootout attempts.

Engren earned his first win as an Admiral making 32 saves, including three in the shootout, knotting his record at 1-1.

The Admirals now have a two point lead over second place Houston, as a date with the Aeros looms this Friday night at 7:00 pm at the Bradley Center.
