Charlotte Checkers News Release
CHARLOTTE, N.C. - The American Hockey League announced today that Checkers forward Zac Dalpe has been named to the 2010-11 AHL All-Rookie Team.
Dalpe has scored 21 goals and 30 assists in 56 games this season and his 51 points rank third among AHL rookies.
A CCHA all-rookie selection at Ohio State as a freshman in 2008-09, Dalpe scored a goal in five straight games from Nov. 6-12 and had back-to-back four-point nights on Jan. 21 and 23.
The Paris, Ontario native began the season with the Carolina Hurricanes and has played in 15 NHL games over three separate stints this season. He scored his first career NHL goal on Jan. 1 against future Hall of Fame goaltender Martin Brodeur and his New Jersey Devils.
A former second-round draft pick of Carolina in 2008, Dalpe turned pro following two seasons with Ohio State. As a Buckeye, the native of Paris, Ont. registered 70 points (34g, 36a) in 76 collegiate games and led his team with 45 points during the 2009-10 season.
Also named to the AHL's All-Rookie Team were Manitoba goaltender Eddie Lack, Adirondack defenseman Erik Gustafsson, Grand Rapids defenseman Brendan Smith, Bridgeport forward Rhett Rakhshani and Portland forward Luke Adam.
The Checkers (41-25-2-7) go on the road for two games next weekend and will return home to host the Admirals on Monday, Apr. 4.
For every new 'like' the Checkers get on their Facebook page between now and Apr. 1, the team will donate $2 to Zach Bennett and his family, who plan to move to Charlotte for better medical care and to be closer to the team. Visit www.gocheckers.com or head to www.facebook.com/charlottecheckers.
