Admirals Top Bulldogs 3-0

Milwaukee, WI-- The Admirals accomplished a big Tuesday night in their 3-0 shutout of the Hamilton Bulldogs at the Bradley Center. The victory marked the 700th home win in the history of the franchise.

Maybe just as important, the Admirals moved up to sole possession offourth place in the standings as they keep in the hunt for a playoff spot.

The Admirals and Bulldogs battled back and forth for the first period, but it was Hamilton who had the strongest chances. Just 3:26 into the first period, Milwaukee defenseman Alexander Sulzer tripped a streaking Kyle Chipchura that resulted in a penalty shot. Netminder Pekka Rinne stood tall as he did all night long and he smothered a Chipchura deke.

It wasn't until the second frame that Milwaukee would break the silence. With seven minutes elapsed, Milwaukee took full advantage of a Marvin Degon hooking penalty to take the lead. Jason Guerriero tipped a Mark Matheson shot from the point through the legs of Hamilton goalie Yann Denis.

Milwaukee would strike on the power play yet again in the second period. The goal came when Center Matt Ellison corralled a Denis errant rebound and roofed a shot under the crossbar. The goal tied Ellison for the team lead with his 21 on the season. With the score 2-0, the Bulldogs swapped netminders and sent in Cedrick Desjardins.

Milwaukee would be an equal-opportunity team and put one past Desjardins early in the third period. With 17:58 remaining, Mike Santorelli grabbed a loose puck in front of the Bulldog goal and reached around Desjerdinss outstretched leg to stuff in into the back of the net.

Jason Guerriero and Matt Ellison led the way for the Admirals in scoring, each tabbing a goal and an assist.

Netminder Pekka Rinne moved into second place in a pair of shutout categories with his 25 save performance. Not only did he move up to tie former Admiral Chris Mason with five shutouts in a single season, but he tied Mason for second in career shutouts with 10. Brian Finley leads both categories with seven and 15 shutouts, respectively.

Milwaukee continues it's season long six-game homestand Friday night against division rival Peoria at 7:00 pm. Milwaukee currently leads Peoria by just three points in the standings. In addition to the game, the Admirals will honor former star Tony Hrkac by retiring his jersey into the rafters of the Bradley Center.
