PHILADELPHIA - Scott Munroe recorded his fourth shutout of the season Tuesday night and the Philadelphia Phantoms outshot the Norfolk Admirals 41-22 on their way to a 3-0 victory at the Wachovia Spectrum. The win snapped a three-game losing streak for the Purple and extended their East Division lead over Albany to five points with one game still in hand over the River Rats. The scoring began with just 35 seconds left in the first period. The Phantoms outshot Norfolk 14-3 in that opening frame, and the 14th shot went in off the stick of Jared Ross. He was the recipient of a nice neutral-zone feed from Nate Guenin, after which he carried the puck to the top of the left circle before firing a knuckling slapshot that beat goaltender Marc Denis for the 1-0 lead.

Philadelphia quickly made it a 2-0 advantage on the other side of the intermission. Boyd Kane was working along the right-wing boards and backhanded a centering pass into the slot, which was conveniently occupied by Pete Zingoni. He tucked it past Denis just 3:25 into the period.

Kyle Greentree picked up another insurance marker with 3:36 to play in the contest. Fitzpatrick pinched down from the left faceoff dot and sent a pass cross-ice to the opposite side of the crease for Greentree, who one-timed it home from about 10 feet out.

It was the second time this season that Munroe shut out the Admirals, with the last occasion coming on December 15 in Virginia. While it was his fourth solo shutout, it was his fifth in which he was involved, having combined with Brian Boucher for a tandem shutout in December.

The win puts the Phantoms at 39-21-2-3 on the year for 83 points. The game made up one of the two the Phantoms held in hand over Albany, with Philadelphia now having played 65 games to Albany's 66. The Rats are in action tomorrow in Portland.

The Phantoms return to the ice on Friday when they host the Hershey Bears at the Wachovia Spectrum at 7:05. Besides an always-entertaining matchup with the Bears, it's Faith and Family Night at the Wachovia Spectrum with critically-acclaimed Christian rock band Kutlass on hand to play a postgame concert on the ice. Tickets are available at the Wachovia Complex box office, online at ComcastTIX.com or phantomshockey.com, or by phone at 1-800-298-4200.
